How I installed it:
• Removed /system/app/YouTube.apk (you need a rooted device for this step! If your device is not rooted, try ignoring this step, but installation may not be possible.)
• If YouTube is still in the app drawer, go into YouTube app info and tap "Remove installed updates", then "Force stop".
• Install my APK!
• Your device must be capable of 720p video decoding!

Here's a build that allows playback while screen is off (locked), I did a better job this time, it's much less buggy.

And here's another build that allows playback while screen is off AND while app is in background (until android decides to kill the youtube app to free memory). This one *IS BUGGY*.
If you put youtube into background (by pressing home button) and then return to it, video feed is black and bugged, while video is still playing.
Even if you tap another video the previous video will keep playing and the new video will not start.
So you have to press the back button to stop playing and then view another video
